Have a Google search question?

As active web publishers, we know you're working to build quality traffic so the world can see the great content you've created. Since many of you rely on listings in search engines for this traffic, we often receive email from publishers who have concerns about their site's listing on Google.com. We'd like to let you know that to protect the integrity of our search results, your participation in AdSense won't affect your site's ranking or listing in the Google index. Since AdSense is separate from Google.com search results, our team is unable to provide publishers with any information about a site's Page Rank or status in the Google index. However, if you do have questions about your site's ranking or listing on Google.com, we encourage you to visit Webmaster Central . There, you can navigate to pages with information about how Google crawls and indexes pages, how to improve a site's ranking , or why a site is no longer visible in the index. In add

Link unit, front and center

If you visit www.the-gadgeteer.com , you’re likely to find a review of the newest, hippest gadget. For nearly a decade, Julie Strietelmeier has taken her fascination with consumer electronics to the masses, offering her opinions on the latest gadget accessories for readers to enjoy. Recently, Julie experimented with optimizing her link unit ad placement. She removed the existing 120x90 link unit from the uppermost right corner of her pages, and instead placed a 468x15 link unit at the top of her articles. In doing so, Julie found a convenient, unobtrusive location and saw her readers naturally gravitating towards the link unit. Her efforts led to an immediate doubling of her revenue -- an increase that has been sustained since the move. Before After With the nice bump in her earnings, Julie has found the extra pocket change handy. As she says, “Now I can go out and buy the newest gadgets and review them immediately” -- much to the relief of her gadget-happy audience. Posted by Alton L

AdSense for content now in Hebrew

This week, we’ve launched AdSense for content in Hebrew. If you're a publisher with a site primarily in Hebrew, feel free to begin displaying contextually-targeted ads on your pages by logging in to your account and generating your ad code under the AdSense Setup tab. As you may know, it can take up to 48 hours for our crawler to visit your site and determine which are relevant ads to display. Please know that we’re working on making AdSense for content and AdSense for search available in more languages, and we’ll be sure to post any updates right here. In the meantime, we appreciate your patience, and ask that you continue to place the ad or search code only on pages in one of our supported languages . !מהיום תוכלו להרוויח מהאתר שלכם גם בעברית Posted by Arlene Lee - AdSense Publisher Support

Enhance your site with Google search results

If you're looking for an easy way to add some interactivity to your site, we've got just the tool for you. The AJAX Search Wizards allow you to add a video, news, and local search results to your web page without writing any code. Just tell us how you want the widget to display and what searches to automatically execute, and the wizard will generate the code for you to copy and paste into your web page. Our newest wizard generates a news bar that scrolls through recent news headlines. Here, we've customized it to show Google News search results for Google, Apple, and Microsoft: Take a look. The news bar is also available in a vertical orientation for you to use in a column or sidebar. You can easily change the look-and-feel of the our wizard-generated code just by adding some CSS or editing the JavaScript. Also, check out our video bar wizard to easily add Google videos to your site and try our map search wizard to add a searchable Google map to your site. The AJAX

Holidays galore

This Monday, February 19th, our U.S. offices will be closed in observation of President's Day. This means you can expect slightly longer response times to your email, so please feel free to consult other publishers in the Help Forum or search for your answer in our Help Center over the long weekend. And speaking of the weekend, we'd like to wish our publishers who follow the lunar calendar a Happy Lunar New Year! We hope that this Year of the Golden Pig brings you health and prosperity...and piggy banks full of AdSense earnings :) Posted by Arlene Lee - AdSense Publisher Support

Feeds for thought

Does your site have a feed? If not, you may be missing out on a substantial number of repeat visitors. An increasing number of users are using feed readers to keep up to date with their favorite websites. You've worked so hard to create that quality content, and feeds can help you grow your audience as well as let your current readers take your site with them wherever they go. Google Reader and the Google Personalized Homepage are examples of feed readers that allow your users to keep track of updates to your site -- and starting today, it's now possible to track the number of users subscribed to your site via these two feed readers. Here are just a few examples of AdSense sites which also offer feeds: Information resources NewsMax and Hybridcars.com publish feeds of their most recent stories. Taquitos.net, a specialty site focused on snacks, publishes feeds with the newest snack reviews . Blogs like Inside AdSense publish feeds with the latest posts . There are many reso

Now on an AdSense ad format near you: shopping carts

Image
Starting today, you may notice some AdSense ads displaying the Google Checkout shopping cart badge alongside the ad title. These small icons identify ads that link to sites where shoppers can buy via Google Checkout . The addition of the Checkout badge makes it easier for people to find sites where they can use Google Checkout's quick, easy and secure checkout option when making a purchase. In addition to shopping carts on AdSense, we're also introducing new badges on ads that appear in Google search results . We hope you enjoy these new additions to our ad formats. It's another step in our ongoing efforts to enhance the experiences of AdSense publishers, AdWords advertisers, and visitors to your site. Posted by Jonathan Berger - Google Checkout Product Manager

Referral policies - clarified

We've noticed some confusion over the program policies associated with referrals. Specifically, some publishers tell us they don't understand why we allow "explicit endorsement" for referral ads, but do not allow the same type of "unnatural attention" for our AdSense for content and AdSense for search ads. We thought we'd clarify our referrals program's policies and explain why we do not allow the same treatment for other Google ads. First, referral ads are credited on a cost per action (CPA) basis. This means that there is a specific action such as an install for Google Pack that your visitors must complete before you generate earnings. The advertiser places a certain value on that action being completed, and is willing to pay you a percentage of that value. If you highlight the referral ad and encourage more people to complete the action, the value that the advertiser places on that action does not diminish. For example, Google is willing to pay up

Are the ides of April on your mind?

2007 is officially here, and now that you've finished sweeping up the confetti and setting New Year's resolutions, you may be thinking about how you're going to report your 2006 taxes. April 15th is just around the corner, so we'd like to give you some information on AdSense tax reporting. As required by U.S. tax law, we'll send IRS forms 1099 and 1042-S to qualifying publishers. To determine whether you are a qualifying publisher and if you should expect to receive one of these forms, please review the criteria in our Help Center . These tax forms were mailed on January 31st, so any forms sent to you should arrive during February. As a reminder, checks dated in 2006 will be reported in 2006. This means that unpaid earnings from 2006 that are rolled over to 2007 will not be included. For example, December earnings which are paid in January 2007 will not be included as earnings for 2006. As always, if you have any questions about your specific tax situation, it's

New pricing structure for referrals

Last year we asked you for your feedback on referrals, and one of the issues we heard quite frequently was that it was too difficult to generate revenue with AdSense and AdWords referrals. To address this, we've just introduced a new pricing structure for both programs, which will be as follows: AdSense Referrals: When a publisher who signed up for Google AdSense through your referral earns their first $5 within 180 days of sign-up, you will be credited with $5. When that same publisher earns $100 within 180 days of sign-up and is eligible for payment, you will be credited with an additional $250. If, in any 180-day period, you refer 25 publishers who each earn more than $100 within 180 days of their respective sign-ups and are all eligible for payout, you will be awarded a $2,000 bonus (bonus payouts are limited to 1 per year). AdWords Referrals: When an advertiser you refer spends $5 within 90 days of sign-up (in addition to the $5 sign-up fee) you will be credited with $5.

10,000 strong (and growing)

Since our first post oh-so-long-ago in August 2005 , we've aimed to provide all our readers with all the support, answers, and updates possible. Soon after we introduced the blog, we offered you all the option to receive our posts by email. Many of you -- more than 10,000 of you as of this past week, in fact -- chose to take us up on our offer and have discovered that subscribing to the blog is a great way to get the heads-up about new features, the inside scoop on optimizing your site, and the answers to questions that have puzzled you and other AdSense publishers. We'd like to thank all of you Inside AdSense readers for your continued support, and encourage those who haven't yet subscribed to do so. We think you'll be glad you did.
